The Demon baseball team starts their run at a return trip to state tonight when they travel to Fairfield to face Fairfield.
This is the fifth time these two teams will have faced each other, with Fairfield having the record 3-1. Washington won the first game of the double header on July 3 4-3, but the Trojans have outscored the Demons 21-10 in the four games.
The Demons come into the game at 13-16, and on a three game winning streak. The team is hitting .254 combined, and are led at the plate by Walker Breard who has a .333 average, 35 RBI’s and six homeruns on the year. Tanner Knupp is right behind Breard with a .326 average in the lead off spot. The Demons have many arms they can choose from tonight to face Fairfield, but their ace continues to be Elijah Wood with a 3-2 record in 58 innings, 1.45 ERA, 66 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .174 off of him.
Fairfield is 24-8 this year, and hitting .277 as a team, their top bat is Mason Ellis with a .416 average, 22 RBI’s and a homerun, while three others are hitting over .300. On the mound for Fairfield, their top arm is Austin Gridley who is 6-0 with a 2.31 ERA, 51 K’s and opponents are hitting .170 off of him, but Joseph Hietpas is also very good, with a 1.42 ERA and opponents hitting .190.
