Work is being done to figure out who is liable for the cost of emergency repairs at the Wellman water plant. Issues at the new portion of the plant led to a warning from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources earlier this month after the Reverse Osmosis system was shut down. According to City Administrator Nick Pacha, the repairs may still be under warranty. They’re currently talking to their engineer and contractor to find out.
He explains that while the DNR issued a warning to residents of the city to only drink bottled water because of high levels of nitrates, on site tests and lab tests showed that their water was safe while they were using their old system.
