Livestock Judging Results from the County Fair
37 4-Hers participated in the livestock judging contest at the Washington County Fair Monday, July 15.
Livestock judging consists of analyzing animals and measuring them against a standard that is commonly accepted as being ideal for that species. In a competition, youth analyze four animals of each species and rank them from best to worst. The animals used for the county fair livestock judging competition were all 4-H projects on the fairgrounds being exhibited by other 4-Hers.
Youth competed in teams and also for individual points at the county fair contest. Cash awards are given to the top team and trophies to the top judge in each age division.
Contact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811, for more information on being a part of the livestock judging team or 4-H in Washington County.
