Tonight, the reigning sixth place in class 3A Mid-Prairie softball team will look to take down the reigning seventh place Davenport Assumption softball team in the regional final.

Both teams placed at state last year, and this year only one will go. The Golden Hawks have been ranked all season long in the top three, while Assumption in not ranked into this game.

Mid-Prairie beat Columbus Junction 17-1 in the first round, and Mount Vernon 4-1 in the second round to get to the final, while Assumption beat Wilton 11-0 in the first round, and then No. 15 Northeast 2-0 in the semi-finals to make it to the finals.

The Golden Hawks and Knights have a rivalry that gets heated in the playoffs, as they are usually two quality teams that are always paired with a chance to go to state.

This game will be played at Wilton at 7 P.M. and can be heard on AM and FM KCII with pregame at 6:30 and first pitch at 7. See if the Golden Hawks can make the return trip to state tonight only on the one to count on for today’s local sports coverage AM and FM KCII.
