The post season run for the Mid-Prairie baseball team came to an end Saturday evening in Wapello. The Golden Hawks fell to the Mediapolis Bulldogs 6-1 in the district 11 championship game. MEPO led throughout, opening the scoring in the third inning with four runs on two hits, including a two run home run from Dustin Belknap, and two Mid-Prairie errors against starter Spencer Shalla. Mid-Prairie answered back with one in the bottom of the third to make it 4-1 when Karson Duwa scored on a Jonas Coblentz RBI triple.

Mediapolis would post single insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch their lead to five while Mid-Prairie had only two hits in the final four innings against Bulldog starter Jordan Wagenbach. Following the game Mid-Prairie Head Coach Ryan Koller talked about his team’s offensive night.

“There are times that we probably swung at a few bad pitches, their pitcher is not overwhelming by any means,” Koller said. “These guys, you’ve got to stay back to hit it, and it seemed like when we were hitting it hard we were hitting it hard into the sky and that makes it pretty easy to get out. Not a lot of line drives, and [against] a pitcher like Wagenbach I expect our team to do a lot better, it just didn’t happen tonight.”

Mid-Prairie ended the game with one run on just four hits while committing four errors. With the loss Mid-Prairie ends their season at 14-26.
