The Mid-Prairie baseball team will tread on Washington’s turf tonight when they play host to Fairfield.

The Golden Hawks are 7-23 this year and hitting .220 as a team, and are coming off three straight losses to Iowa City Regina.

Spencer Shalla still leads the way with the best bat, hitting .284 on the season with 10 RBI’s. Shalla is also a strong arm for Mid-Prairie with a 3.59 ERA and 33 strikeouts, Adam Schrock is also a good arm with a 1.05 ERA in 13 1/3 innings and 12 K’s.

Head coach Ryan Koller said these last two weeks of the regular season are a perfect time to assess the team and get the best guys on the field for the playoffs.

“Number one cutting down on errors, and number two, having this many games, I really get to evaluate how the guys are hitting,” Koller said. “For the most part we see pretty good pitching, and we see all different kinds of pitchers that are working 50 percent curve balls, [and we] just work on staying back and hitting line drives, so I’ve really got to evaluate kind of what our team is.”

Fairfield is 12-7 this year and is hitting .282 as a team. Fairfield’s top hitter is Mason Ellis hitting .418 with 15 RBI’s. Pitching wise it is Joseph Hietpas who has a 1.55 ERA and 52 strikeouts on the year.
