Four arrests have been made, and more are possible, in connection to car thefts in southeast Iowa. On June 16th, the Jefferson and Davis County Sheriff’s offices received several reports of car thefts. The recovery of some of the vehicles in Wapello County, and a chase involving one of the suspects and authorities days after the initial report, was followed by an investigation. The investigation conducted by Bloomfield Police, Ottumwa Police, as well as the Sheriff’s offices in Davis, Jefferson and Wapello counties, led to the arrest of three adults and one juvenile.
Wapello County Sheriff Chief Deputy Don Phillips says those in custody include 18-year-old Cody Surber, 18-year-old William McCarroll and 26-year-old Jesse Clawson, all of Ottumwa.
Phillips says more arrests are expected. In total, 18 cars were stolen.
