This month marks the five-year anniversary of the Iowa Smokefree Air Act. In June, the Iowa Department of Public Health had free nicotine replacement therapy, gum and patches, available through Quitline – it has now been extended through December 31st, 2013 with funding approved by the legislature and signed by the governor.
IDPH Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Division Director Meghan O’Brien says, “We saw a tremendous response to the free NRT last month and continuing to provide this tool will help many more Iowans who have made the decision to be tobacco-free.”
To sign up for the four weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy or to learn about other tools to quit smoking, including internet-based coaching, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or 1-800-784-8669, or visit www.QuitLineIowa.org.
