A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Fairfield this past weekend. The Fairfield Police Department was notified at around 6pm Saturday that a Burlington Northern – Sante Fe train hit and fatally injured a pedestrian. The train was stopped for four hours, as police processed the crime scene.

Additional information and the name of the deceased is being withheld until the investigation is finished. Fairfield Police Captain David Thomas says it could take up to two weeks to complete their work with the State Medical Examiners Office.

Agencies assisting Fairfield Police on scene and with the investigation include Burlington Northern – Sante Fe Railroad officials, Fairfield Fire Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Midwest Ambulance Service, and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.
