The Washington Demon softball team plays to go to state tonight on KCII.

Washington will face North Scott at Cedar Rapids Xavier tonight for a chance to return to the state tournament, and if you are wondering why this sounds familiar, because last year Washington won 4-1 over North Scott at Washington to go to state.

The Demons enter the game hitting .348 as a team. Kaitlin Buchholz still holds the best average at a .444 with 48 RBI’s and four home runs, while Ashley Rausch is close behind with 45 RBI’s and three homeruns.

Rausch will start in the circle tonight, and she is 15-9 this year with a 2.21 ERA, 99 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .207 off of her.

The Lancers are Ranked No. 15 in the state, and upset the top seed in this region, No. 6 Cedar Rapids Xavier to get here, beating them 6-1. They are 24-14 on the year and hitting .334 as a team. At the plate they are led by Mckenna Heim who is hitting .477 with 23 RBI’s and a homer, and Anna Boffeli who is hitting .469 with 28 RBI’s and three homeruns.

Pitching wise for the Lancers they have three different pitchers who have had success all year. Combined they have a 3.25 ERA, 154 strikeouts and opponents are hitting .227.

Tonight’s game will be at Cedar Rapids Xavier and will send one of these teams to the state tournament.
