A special election will be held to fill the vacant District 5 Washington County Board of Supervisors seat. Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer, Recorder Jo Greiner and Treasurer Jeff Garrett held a meeting to decide whether to nominate a successor or to hold a special election, despite the approximate $3,000 cost the trio opted to have a special election.
The county’s Democratic and Republican parties will hold conventions and nominate a candidate by September 13th, also any Independent candidates must submit petitions for candidacy by September 13th.
According to Sue Meeks, elections clerk, the likely date of the election is October 8th. Only residents of District 5 will be able to vote in this election.
