The Emerald Ash Borer has made it to Fairfield. The discovery of the insect in a tree in the Jefferson County city was confirmed yesterday.

A quarantine in southeast Iowa is expected in the near future, which would restrict the movement of firewood, ash logs and wood chips out of the quarantined counties, to try and stop the spread of the bug and its ash tree killing larvae.

According to ISU Extension Entomologist Mark Shour, the Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship, Iowa DNR, Iowa State University and USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection have been looking collaboratively in Iowa’s 99 counties for the pest since 2004.
