The Mid-Prairie cross country team is looking to repeat last years success on both the boy’s and the girl’s teams.

Last year the Mid-Prairie boy’s made it to Fort Dodge and finished 12th and lose one to graduation in Jake O’Donnell and Wyatt Cady has decided not to go out, but that still brings back the top runners at state for the Golden Hawks in Jared Draper and Ryan Errthum. Other top runners that return for Mid-Prairie are Evan Wild, Ty Feigenspan and Zeb Schwartz.

On the girl’s side they lose Mallory McArtor, who made it to state last year as an individual, along with three other girls, but head coach Mark Hostetler said he is confident in his team, and that he is looking for them to improve all year long.

“In order for the team to be successful this year, I would like to see improvement throughout the year, individually, and of course that would carry over to the team, but it is going to be a strong task to improve as much this year as we did last year, [because] they are already starting out this year on their own running faster then we did at the end of the year last year,” Hostetler said.

The cross country season for Mid-Prairie starts on September 3, at Williamsburg. Mid-Prairie will hold their own meet on September 24 with Wilton, IMS, Muscatine, HLV, Keota, Highland, Pekin and Tri-County.

The conference meet will be held at Valley Oaks golf club on October 17, and Districts will be on October 24th.
