The heat advisory for the listening area is in its third day, with the thermometer’s mercury rising above 90 degrees the last two days. The Iowa Department of Public Health is reminding Iowans to take precaution in the extreme heat. Those at greatest risk include people over the age of 65, infants and young children, overweight individuals, those with chronic illness and those doing manual labor outdoors.

To protect yourself in the heat, increase fluid intake, choose lightweight and light colored clothing, wear sunscreen, stay in the shade when outdoors and in air conditioning when possible. Also, watch others for heat-induced illness.
