Highland softball head coach Carrie Wieland was named the 2013 2A Southeast Iowa coach of the year for her team’s season.

Wieland said it was a great honor to receive but she could not have done it without the people around her.

“I totally believe that I got the award from my team, I didn’t per say do anything different then I have in years past, but with as hard as they worked and the team work they put into it, it gave me this award rather than me getting it myself, I just think we worked really well as a team, and their backing and believing in me was a huge part of it, and [I couldn’t have done it without] my assistants Gary Yoder, and Samantha Wieland either,” Wieland said. “My job is pretty easy when you have athletes like I do.”

Highland finished the year an undefeated 18-0 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division, and went 32-4 overall, finishing up their season in the regional championship game.
