A resolution creating a Neighborhood Stabilization Program was passed by the Washington City Council this week. This program provides means for the city to acquire dilapidated residential properties, demolish the structures and then sell the cleared property for construction of a home for the benefit of Low and Moderate Income households.

Depending on the property, the structure may be demolished by a controlled burn or training fire for the Washington Fire Department.

The council also selected three priorities based on the Housing Task Force’s recommendations. The three are, improving existing code, examining property maintenance code and potentially adopting rental housing registration and inspection guidelines.
