A Johnson County Republican has announced his candidacy for Iowa Senate District 39. Royce Phillips, current city council member and former mayor of Tiffin, has announced his candidacy and started visiting the district Monday with stops in Washington, Sigourney and North Liberty. He states that his platform is based on his three R’s – reconciliation, reform and rebuild. He feels that his experience as a council member and mayor of one of the fastest growing towns in Iowa has taught him about many issues, such as TIF and economic development.

With two Republican candidates, Phillips and Michael Moore of Washington, a primary election for the seat will be held in June.
