Ten acres of land owned by the City of Washington may be developed into a soccer park. Sid Ryan of the Washington Soccer Club addressed the city council last night, requesting that full sized fields be developed for area youth and adults to use for soccer practice and games. The proposed piece of land is currently rented out for farming and is located near 18th Street. Ryan stated that he and the club would invest the money needed to develop quality fields if given the priority of scheduling.

The council approved a motion to direct staff to develop an agreement between the soccer club, YMCA, Park Board and the city for the proposed acreage.

The council’s next meeting will be held August 21st.
