A few small game hunting seasons start at the end of the month. On Saturday, August 31st, gray and fox squirrel, and cottontail rabbit, hunting will open in Iowa. According to Iowa Department of Natural Resource Conservation Officer, Wes Gould, with game like this, hunting isn’t necessarily for population control, like it is for deer. He explains it’s mostly due to the fact their populations can maintain a healthy level, despite the five month hunting season.
