While the state of Iowa saw an increase in unemployment from the month of June to July, Washington County experienced a slight decrease, according to Iowa Workforce Development. Washington County’s unemployment rate went from 3.7-percent to 3.6-percent in July and is down from last year’s July rate of 4.2-percent. Other area counties that saw decreases in unemployment include Louisa, Jefferson and Henry counties.

Keokuk, Johnson and Iowa counties experienced increases.

The state’s unemployment rate is 4.8-percent, up from June’s 4.6-percent.
