Iowa Workforce Development has released the employment statistics for the month of August. While the country’s unemployment rate was 7.3-percent the state of Iowa was at 4.9-percent. Washington County’s unemployment rate was 3.7-percent last month, a slight increase from July. Other area counties with slight increases include Henry and Keokuk counties. Lee County had the highest unemployment rate for the state with 7.4-percent.

– Jefferson 5.6% (5.6%)
– Johnson 3.8% (4.0%)
