Area August Unemployment Rates

Iowa Workforce Development has released the employment statistics for the month of August. While the country’s unemployment rate was 7.3-percent the state of Iowa was at 4.9-percent. Washington County’s unemployment rate was 3.7-percent last month, a slight increase from July. Other area counties with slight increases include Henry and Keokuk counties. Lee County had the highest unemployment rate for the state with 7.4-percent.

Below are area counties’ unemployement rates for August, followed by July in parentheses:
- Washington 3.7% (3.6%)
- Henry 5.6% (5.5%)
- Iowa 4.4% (4.7%)
- Jefferson 5.6% (5.6%)
- Johnson 3.8% (4.0%)
- Keokuk 5.0% (4.7%)
- Louisa 4.9% (5.0%)
