The Iowa Court of Appeals has announced that 54-year-old Rodney Bean’s convictions stand. The Ainsworth man had appealed his convictions for involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree theft, neglect of a dependent person and two counts of dependent adult abuse. Bean was charged in 2010, following the death of Joye Gentzler who was in his care. She died from malnutrition and dehydration and an autopsy showed that she had suffered multiple broken bones as well as bruising. A pathologist determined that the death was the result of homicide because the medical and nutritional needs had not been met. A criminal trial was held in 2011, Bean was found guilty and sentenced to serve 17 years.
