A discussion of the Bunker Mill Bridge which was set ablaze last month was held at this week’s Washington County Board of Supervisors’ meeting. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh addressed the board asking for more time, as the City of Kalona is hosting a community meeting Tuesday, September 10th, at 7 p.m. to discuss the future of the bridge and possible funding for a project. Schlabaugh then told the supervisors that he would provide them with a briefing the following Tuesday.

The supervisors agreed to wait until he returns before granting a bid for removal to a company.

Meanwhile, County Engineer Jacob Thorius will work to make it more difficult for the public to access the bridge in an effort to mitigate the liability. The supervisors’ next meeting will be held Monday at 9:30 due to the school board elections.
