The Columbus boys’ cross country team finished fourth and the girls fifth at the Fort Madison Invitational Thursday night.
The Wildcat boys placed three runners in the top 11 of the Class B race with Eli Sents finishing fifth in 18:25; Josh Keller in sixth in 18:29; Efrain Barajas was 11th in 18:51; Anthony Garcia was 28th in 20:19 and Adrian Santos was 58th in 22:03.
“Our top three boys were very strong again tonight,” coach Steve Riley said. “We would like to see numbers 4-7 close the gap.”
The girls were led by Taylor Hills, who placed 12th in the Class B race in 19:19. Other placeers were; Claire Hamilton in 22nd in 20:33; Ashley Canny in 31st in 21:24; Yvette Aguilar finished 38th in 22:19 and Alma Frias was 46th in 23:00. 52. Rebeca Neri 24:27.
“The girls didn’t run up to par partly because of injury and sickness, but we can and will run better,” Riley said.
