A city with an unusually high amount of rental properties has adopted an inspection program. With the new program, Columbus Junction will inspect rental properties annually. Mallory Smith, Director of the city Development Center, says landlords and tenants will receive a summary of the program requirements before a preliminary inspection is held later this fall.
She explains up to 50% of their housing stock are rentals, comparable to other cities in Iowa with meat packing plants.
