Washington Schools are in their second year of testing athletes who suffer head injuries for concussions and lasting effects before they are allowed to return to action. Eric Turner, Washington School Board President and area physical therapist explains that students must have medical clearance before returning and then they must pass an Impact Concussion Test, which tests the brain’s functionality, reaction time and memory. Every student athlete takes this test before participating in sports and a test taken after an injury is compared to this base line test. Following those steps, athletes then progressively return to activity.
