An electric company in Kalona is receiving federal dollars to make upgrades. Farmers Electric Cooperative’s $10 million loan guarantee from the Rural Utilities Service of Department of Agriculture Rural Development was announced recently. The funding will be used to serve 305 additional customers, build 273 miles of distribution line, and make other improvements.

Projects in seven states will benefit from the around $136 million in USDA loan guarantees.
