Iowa is one of 19 states and territories that has a decrease in obesity among low-income 2 to 4 year olds, according to a Vital Signs report from the Center for Disease Control and Prvention. In this group, Iowa’s obesity rate dropped from 15.1 percent in 2008 to 14.4 percent in 2011.

The Iowa Department of Public Health’s Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, also known as WIC (wick), promotes healthy food choices through nutrition education and food packages with low fat milke, whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
