Today is Labor Day and according to the United States Department of Labor it is an annual tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1882 in New York City and the Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday one year later. Congress passed an act in 1894 making the first Monday of September of each year a legal holiday. It was created to honor workers. This year is the 100th year of the Department of Labor.
