The area’s cross country teams are in action this week at their respective district and regional sites to qualify for state.

For the 1A schools, all of the area teams will be at Wildwood Park in Ottumwa for the district and regional meet and will be a part of 29 teams at the same site.

The area teams attending will be: Highland, Lone Tree, IMS, Sigourney, Keota, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union. Other teams in attendance will be:BCLUW, BGM, Cardinal, Colfax-Mingo, Durant, Harmony, Holy Trinity Catholic, Lynnville-Sully, Maharishi, Montezuma, Moravia, North Mahaska, Pekin, Pleasantville, Scattergood Friends, Southeast Warren, Tri-County, Twin Cedars, Van Buren, Wapello, Wayne and Wilton.

Lone Tree head cross country coach Caylon DeVaul said his team has to try and get up to the top and identify the top teams quickly.

“That is some of the things that we try and pinpoint, who certain schools are and trying to identify them, because places matter, and trying to get everyone up as far as they can in front of those schools, and being able to recognize those schools is important and I think our girls have done a pretty good job of that,” DeVaul said.

Lone Tree and the rest of the area 1A schools will run for a chance at state on Thursday
