Corn and Soybean Harvests Behind Normal Rates

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s first crop report since the government shut down was made available this week. According to the report, recent rains helped soils moisture levels with 46-percent rated as adequate, however Southeast Iowa is the driest with 95 percent of the topsoil moisture considered short or very short.

Nearly the entire corn crop is mature and 35 percent has been harvested for grain or seed. This is 15 points behind normal. Soybeans are 11 percentage points behind normal with 70 percent harvested at as of Monday.
