There’s no end in sight for the drought currently impacting southeast Iowa. According to the U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook, the drought is expected to persist or intensify through the end of January. Washington County and surrounding areas are in a severe drought, as is 35% of the state. Conditions were improving, and Iowa was nearly drought free in late June, but conditions began to decline in mid-July and have continued to since.
