A bridge expert will be in Washington County next week to inspect the Bunker Mill Bridge. Suzanne Micheau, Managing Director of Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge, says work could begin shortly after he assesses the situation.
The group continues their fundraising efforts for the restoration. They collected $300 at a Kalona restaurant last week.
This Saturday, the group is holding an open house at the bridge from 10am to 2pm. There will be baked goods, hot chocolate, and a display with information on the bridge’s history and acknowledgment for those who have donated to the project.
It’s an eleven mile walk to the bridge from Kalona City Park, by taking A Avenue to Nutmeg Avenue. The bridge is also accessible by taking Nutmeg Avenue south off of Highway 22.
