A conference committee has been appointed to address the Farm Bill and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program with 12 members from the Senate and 17 from the House. Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley explains that the bill is in conference committee because the Senate wants to save $4 billion on SNAP while the House wants to cut $40 billion. He adds that he believes that an agreement on the bill has a good chance to be finalized before Thanksgiving. WIC, the Women Infants and Children program, is part of SNAP and serves 271 families in Washington County, on average each family receives a voucher valued at $55 a month.
