A two-vehicle car accident with injuries at the intersection of Lexington Boulevard and Highway 1 in Washington resulted in a fatality. Four people were transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City and the Washington County Hosptial by Washington County Ambulance personnel from the Wednesday afternoon wreck. According to the Washington Communications Center, 80-year-old Samuel Orris of Washington was driving a 2010 Kia Soul and was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.

The other driver was 72-year-old Kathryn Toomire of Ottumwa, who was operating a Chrysler PT Cruiser. A passenger of the PT Cruiser, 79-year-old Robert Toomire of Ottumwa was later pronounced dead at the University Hospital.

Washington Police, Washington Fire Department, Washington County Sherrif’s personnel, Washington Rescue, Washington County Ambulance, area first responders and Iowa State Patrol responded to the accident.
