Three local fire departments responded to a property near West Chester yesterday afternoon, although a fire never broke out. Kalona Fire Department responded at around 4pm, when smoke coming from a hog barn at 1934 200th Street was reported. Kalona Fire Chief Steve Yotty says the problem with the structure’s electrical equipment resulted in minimal damage, and adds no hogs died. Fire Departments in Wellman and Keota were also called to the scene.
