The #12 IMS Volleyball team took care of business Thursday night in Kalona sweeping Southeast Iowa Superconference rival WACO. IMS took game one 25-16 on the strength of 10 straight points in the middle of the match. IMS won game two 25-11, leading from beginning to end. Game three was the most competitive of the night as WACO built a late 20-16 lead, only to see IMS roar back and steal the 25-23 win. Following the match WACO Head Coach Jay Coble talked about game three and his teams progress this season.

“I thought we kind of played with a little more energy in the third game, and we had seen what they were going to do to us serve wise and offensively we started getting some block and some swing and that is what I thought we did better in the third game,” Coble said. “WE wanted to go to our outsides, because we thought that we got caught insides on that run, from 20-16 to 20-13, and we got the ball to our outside and that is what we wanted to see, that last was obviously was pushed out a little too far.”

In the win IMS was led by Olivia Yutzy’s 19 kills. Casey Perez had 28 assists and four aces. Demi Brezina led the IMS defense with 19 digs. Head Coach Dwight Gingerich talked after the game about his team’s success Thursday night.

“Casey Perez made some tremendous plays defensively, and she just really got the ball into really special spot for our hitters at times, and really stretched across the floor, but I thought our passing got better and during that stretch of play our passing was really strong,” Gingerich said.”

With the win IMS is now 16-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play. They will be at Wapello Tuesday. WACO is now 9-11 overall, 2-4 in the SEISC. The Warriors host Mediapolis on Tuesday.
