The #12 IMS volleyball team celebrated Senior night in style Thursday sweeping Columbus three games to zero. IMS rolled to a first game win 25-9 and overcame slow starts in games two and three, falling behind 7-1 early in each, to take the match in straight sets. Following the game Head Coach Dwight Gingerich spoke about his team’s come from behind performance and what this year’s Seniors mean to the team.

“We were clicking in set one, and what has become a bit of a pattern here in the last couple of weeks, we were kind of relaxed in set two, and then I thought Columbus played very well, they are very scrappy, they served extremely well, I thought we did better in set three to overcome that,” Gingerich said. “Casey Perez, Olivia Yutzy and Kristin Davis have been tremendous leaders for this team. Three years ago I coached this team and they were freshmen, and we had a great group of seniors that year, and now this group has become that group in the sense of being good leaders and people that the younger kids look up to and they are doing a good job.”

IMS was led by Olivia Yutzy’s 21 kills. Casey Perez led the team with 31 assists and four aces. Yutzy posted 15 digs for the IMS defense. With the win IMS is now 18-8 on the year and will be at the Washington tournament tomorrow.
