A few small roadwork projects in Kalona will be completed this fall. North English based LL Pelling’s bid for approximately $102,000 was accepted at this week’s city council meeting. According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, if the weather cooperates, the asphalt paving on 7th and 8th Streets north of Highway 22, and the cul-de-sac on 7th Street, should be completed yet this year. He says these projects are part of a bigger effort to upgrade all of the city’s chip seal roads to asphalt.

A portion of the project, a dead-end on 12th street, a low traffic area where the cost of asphalt couldn’t be justified, will be done in chip seal in the spring.
