It’s Manufacturing Week in Iowa, a chance to highlight the state’s manufacturing sector. MD Orthopaedics in Wayland makes orthopedic braces that treat clubfoot. Founder of the company, John Mitchell, says after learning from Dr Ignacio Ponseti at the University of Iowa that the braces being used weren’t effective on severe cases, he developed his own. Started in the mid-2000’s, the Wayland business now distributes thousands of braces each year to over 100 countries.
