The Washington Demon Cross Country team ran at the Southeast Conference meet last night and finished with one all conference runner.
Emme Keith was eighth place for the Demons, finishing in eighth in the field and one of three freshmen-sophomores to finish in the top 10.
Demon head coach Steve Roth said Keith ran the best race she has ever had.
“It was outstanding, coach Tschantz and I are just ecstatic with Emme Keith getting eighth and getting the all-conference selection,” Roth said. “That’s what we need, 12 kids ran their PR’s and we tried to get to single digits and we were close in both of them, but Keith just went out hard, ran an outstanding race held back about the mile and a half marker, but she was running second or third most of the time and then creeped back up there at the end and then had a nice spring at the end and we’re just ecstatic for her, she just ran an outstanding race.”
Keith had a time of 16:46. Behind her was Mariah Howard in 20th with a time of 18:21, Emma Wood in 24th with a time of 19:37, Stephanie Loy was 25th with a time of 19:39, and Stepanie Fishback rounded out the scorers with a 29th place finish and a time of 29:42.
Washington was fourth with 106 points, while the winner was Mt. Pleasant with 27 points.
On the boy’s side, they were led by Austin Latcham who finished 16th in a time of 17:53, and right behind him in 17th was Curtis Vest with a time of 17:56.
Other scorers for Washington were Owen Horak in 20th with a time of 18:18, Jarek Brown was 26th with a time of 19:18, and Luke Brown was 31st in a time of 19:43.
Washington finished fourth with a score of 110, while the winners of the meet was Ft. Madison with 27.
Washington runs next week for a chance to go to state at the district and regional meet.
