The Washington Demons went in, took care of business, and came out undefeated district champs.

Washington beat Centerville 63-3 in a game that they started slow in the first quarter, but built up steam as the game went on.

Centerville started with the ball and had to punt away on fourth, giving it to the Demons who used a short eight play drive to march down the field and score on a seven yard run by Tanner Knupp to go up 7-0 quick. The Big Red’s second drive pushed them down the field, and a normally disciplined Demon defense had two pass interference calls on them putting Centerville within striking distance, but they could only manage a 22 yard field goal by Brent Jackson to make it 7-3, and it only went down hill for Centerville from there.

Washington still with some sloppy play and three holding penalties in the drive pushed the ball down the field and scored on a one yard run by Alex Coker. In the second quarter Washington started playing more like the Demons, scoring early on a four yard run by Coker, a touchdown pass from Daryn Seibelius to Knupp for 22 yards, another touchdown pass for 33 yards to Gage Redlinger, a five yard run by Knupp and after a botched kickoff return that the Demons recovered scored 19 second later on a 19 yard run by Carl Sivels to put up 35 points alone in the second quarter and lead 49-3 into halftime.

At Half Seibelius was 5-5 passing, while Michael Starvcevich was just 3-12.

Out of the halftime break the Demons brought out the first team to give them a shot, and they scored early with a 59 yard run by Knupp to go up 56-3. As the continuous clock ran the game was stopped for an extended time as Graydon Schmidt of Centerville was tackled awkwardly after a catch, and had to be carted away on an ambulance. Play resumed, and Washington got the ball back on an interception by Carl Sivels.

Finally the second teams came in, in the fourth quarter, and after a 66 yard run by Ethan Hansen to get the second team in scoring range, he punched it in as well from five yard out to make it 63-3 and the game was over.

Washington destroyed the Big Red in every statistical category, out gaining them in offensive yards 521-98. Demon head coach Randy Schrader said it is nice to win, but now the real season starts.

“We’re pretty tough when we do what we do, so now it’s for real, you have a legitimate chance for a state title once you get into the playoffs, we just have to get it cranked up tomorrow morning and make some things happen,” Schrader said.

Coker had 122 yards in 15 carries and two touchdowns, while Tanner Knupp had 83 yard on seven carries three touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. Seibelius was 5-5 with 134 yards and touchdowns.
