Despite the government shutdown, the Women Infants and Children program, also known as WIC, will be funded across the state through October 31st. Washington County Public Health Director Danielle Pettit-Majewski explains that WIC can issue checks for the month of October for current and new clients. Also checks already issued for the month of November are funded and can be used next month.

WIC is a program that assists young families in getting nutritious foods. Only certain things can be purchased with WIC vouchers, such as whole grain cereals, milk, eggs and baby formula. WIC serves 271 families in Washington County and on average, each family receives a voucher valued at $55 a month.
