The Winfield- Mt. Union volleyball team continued to have a hot streak this weekend, making it to the finals of the New London Tournament, and taking the hosts to three sets.

The Wolves finished second, losing to New London 2-1, but winning set one in a shoot out 26-24 and dropping sets two and three 25-11 and 15-4.

WMU swept in pool play to get to the finals, beating West Burlington 21-18 and 21-17, beating Harmony 21-13 and 21-15 and then going three sets with highland 21-16, dropping set two 21-18 and then winning set three 15-9.

In the semi-finals, WMU played a point for point game with WACO, losing set one 25-20, squeaking out a win in set two 25-22 and winning set three 15-9 to set up the New London game.

Erica Robinson had a team leading 34 kills on the weekend, Brooke Jennings had 54 assists and Shelby Therme had 33 digs.

WMU head coach Dave Pieart said his team did well this weekend, but as a coach there is always stuff they can work on.

“Our passing has improved, our offensive efficiency has improved, the choices that we are making in the middle of rallies have improved, I mean we are getting better [with] experience,” Pieart said. “You talk about the hot streak from a coaches perspective and, ‘Oh, we were so close to winning, oh, we could have got this one.’ As a coach you are never quite happy with what’s going on, but it is nice to have somebody outside the program to say, ‘Hey you guys are doing really well,’ because sometimes we lose sight of those details.”

WMU is back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Lone Tree.
