The area cross country teams that went to state ran on Saturday, and here is how they did.

In 1A, Highland finished 10th as a team with 188 points, while the winner of the meet was Denver with 89 points. Highland was led by Evan Mahler who finished third with a time of 16:41 good for the All-State recognition. Other scorers were Keiffer Sexton on 18th with a time of 17:21, Caleb Brase in 46th in a time of 18:20, Josh Brase in 54th in a time of 18:31 and Chris Ford in 67th in a time of 18:54.

Also in the 1A race was IMS’s Kirby Shelter who finished 37th overall in a time of 17:41.

In 2A boys, Mid-Prairie finished seventh as a team with 212 points, while Monticello won the meet with 63. The Golden Hawks were led by Jared Draper in 32nd with a time of 17:25. The other scoring runners were Ryan Errthum in 35th in a time of 17:21, Ty Feigenspan in 38th in 17:37, Zeb Schwartz in 43rd in a time of 17:44 and Andrew Schwartz in 64th in 18:17.

Also in the 2A boy’s race was Columbus Junction’s Josh Keller who finished 73rd in 17:55.

The lone female runner was Mid-Prairie’s Abby Tornow who finished 28th overall in 16:04.
