An Ainsworth man was taken into custody yesterday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to start serving a 17 year prison term at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center at Oakdale, announced the Washington County Attorney’s office. In connection with the death of 79-year-old Joye Gentzler, 52-year-old Rodney Bean was convicted of six felony counts and one aggravated misdemeanor. Bean was found guilty of seven crimes following an eight day trial in 2011, which involved more than 30 witnesses, over 150 exhibits and 6 hours of deliberation.

A Keokuk County jury convicted Bean of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of theft in the second degree, neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, intentional dependent adult abuse causing serious injury, reckless dependent adult abuse causing serious injury and dependent adult abuse invovling financial exploitation in excess of $100.

Bean was sentenced to a term not to exceed 17 years and his appeal and request for further review were denied.
