The Washington City Council approved an option agreement for purchase of real property by the YMCA at last night’s meeting. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained that members of the YMCA board approached the council this summer and a verbal agreement was established that if their process led them to build a new facility that they would be able to purchase this land from the city, the option agreement is a written agreement. He adds that the YMCA will only be able to do a new project with community and donor support.

City Councilman Merle Hagie adds that it should be the decision of the YMCA board and members what route they decide to take with their facilities.

The motion to approve the option agreement passed on a 4 to 2 vote.
