With enrollment numbers at WACO School District down from last year, the School Board plans to take steps to make sure it isn’t an ongoing trend. This year’s enrollment is down from around 498 students last year, to 481 this year.

Superintendent Darrell Smith says that can be attributed to families moving to other cities in Iowa and out of state. Another factor is more students open enrolling out than there are open enrolling into the district.

He says at the work session, set for November 12th, they’ll get input from the City Councils in Wayland, Olds and Crawfordsville. The board will then begin working on setting goals that will hopefully make the district more attractive and help the area grow.
