There will be increased visibility of law enforcement this holiday weekend. The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau has announced that a sTEP, Special Traffic Enforcement Program, is taking place. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, there were nine traffic deaths last Thanksgiving holiday, six of which motorists were not using seatbelts. Iowa law enforcement is reminding those traveling this holiday to buckle up. In Iowa, there have been 263 traffic fatalities this year, as of August 8th, nearly 39% of these people did not wear seat belts and 26% couldn’t be determined.
