Influenza activity across the state remains sporadic, according to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network. Only one school in Iowa reported 10-percent or greater absenteeism due to illness. Also, the proportion of outpatient visits due to influenza-like illness was well below the regional baseline at 0.21 percent.

Danielle Pettit-Majewski, Director of Washington Public Health, recommends that everyone get a flu shot annually because the flu strains change and are different from last year. Also, if everyone gets a flu shot that is able to, it will protect those who cannot get the shot, such as those who are immuno-compromised.
